SAVING LIVES THROUGH EMERGENCY BLOOD DONATION AND HEALTH SCREENING- AUGUST 2017-AUGUST 2019
SAVING LIVES THROUGH EMERGENCY BLOOD DONATION AND HEALTH SCREENING -AUGUST 2017 -AUGUST 2019

Through its research activities, the Foundation identified a critical need to strengthen the healthstatus of residents in Cape Coast and its surrounding communities, with particular focus on the
University of Cape Coast (UCC). The research identified that frequent shortages of blood at theUCC Hospital during emergency cases often leave students, relatives, and caregivers strandedwhile searching for donors.

In response to the need, the Foundation implemented a comprehensive health screeningproject within the university community and nearby areas.

The screenings covered sickling, hepatitis B, blood sugar levels, HIV/AIDS, and malaria, with particular emphasis on bloodgrouping and hemoglobin testing.

The core vision of the initiative is to establish and maintain a database of voluntary blooddonors who can be mobilized to support patients in emergency situations. The project wasundertaken in collaboration with the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Ewim Hospital, medical personnel from the UCC Hospital, and the Foundation’s medical team.
Through this intervention, over 8,500 students were screened, and more than 500 pints of blood were donated to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
The substantial impact of the screening and donation exercise within the university and its environs was formally recognized by the university authorities and the student body.

The efforts of the Foundation were acknowledged and awarded by student leadership and partnerorganizations. Numerous lives were saved as a result of this initiative, and several surrounding hospitals have since requested additional campaigns of a similar nature.
In view of these outcomes, the Foundation remains committed to its mandate of helping to ensure that hospitals within the Cape Coast Metropolis and, progressively, other metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies do not experience critical blood shortages.

Accordingly, the Foundation is preparing to scale up and extend its projects to othercommunities across Ghana.
