COVID 19 SAFETY CAMPAIGN -21ST MAY 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to dramatic loss of human lives worldwide and presents an unprecedented challenge to public health. Consequently, it has severely disrupted food systems, livelihoods, and dietary patterns.
In alignment with its mandate to enhance livelihoods across Ghana and to support national efforts against the COVID-19 pandemic, the Naa oo Naa Foundation executed a targeted safety campaign.

This initiative entailed the distribution of complimentary hand sanitizers, face masks, and Veronica buckets at key bus stations and markets within Odorkor, Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly.

At the program, the Founder of the foundation, Ms. Racheal Aryee emphasized that it has become necessary for NGOs to make an impact towards battling the corona virus globalpandemic, through public education and donation of PPEs. She stated, “It is important that, as an NGO, we also contribute our quota to making the community a better place for all".

The Naa ooNaa foundation decided to target the market women and the commercial bus drivers because these ones are largely not technologically inclined and so there is no easy flow of information to them on covid-19.
Strategic focus was placed on market women and commercial bus drivers.

Ms Aryee explainedthat it is difficult for our mothers and fathers, and the grassroots-based individuals to getinformation through social media and other non-traditional medium of communication, hence,
there is the need to go to the grassroots to educate them on the importance of observing theCovid-19 protocol.

Ms Aryee went ahead to highlight the various Covid -19 protocols. Ms Lilian Nortey, a nurse at Greater Accra Regional Hospital-Ridge and a medical team member of the foundation demonstrated to the beneficiaries appropriate ways of wearing face masks and medically approved means of hand washing and procedures to observe social distancing.

The program was also graced by the Ghana Health Service which was represented by theAblekuma North Municipal Health Information Director, Mr. Wilson Addai Asare Oyiadzo.

Mr Oyiadzo emphasized that as part of the effort to mitigate the spread of the virus, the traders and customers without PPEs are not allowed to enter the Odorkor market and bus station.

The Information Services Department; a state agency under Ministry of information was alsorepresented by Madam Mercy Nana Serwaa Asante, the Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly Information Officer.

The Naa oo Naa Foundation has exemplified commendable leadership in this endeavor, warranting emulation. Collective responsibility rests with all Ghanaians to curtail the spread of the virus.
